Battle report 1- 1500pts Marine blood drinkers v Orks
Warlord Blagrot’s Waaagh! was now fully underway. after pushing back numerous Eldar warhosts from his parent system, swarms of huge ork ships began to leap from planet to planet, beaming, air lifting and pod launching ork warbands onto new worlds in search of conquest.
One such world was a Lava world located at the edge of the system. unknown to the orks, a small contingent of blood drinkers space marines were orbiting in the shadow of the planet on their Strike Cruiser. They had recently beamed down an infantry company to recruit the most strong willed of the native tribes. they had a special interest on this planet, upon hearing that bleeding the tribal men was a common religious ritual.
Inevitably, the stage was set for a decisive battle…

Leading from the front, Warlord Blagrot and his suitably named Deathskullz “Blitz Brigade” catch sight of Marine drop pods streaking through the skies. Immediately, engines rev up, turbo boostaz ignite and gutteral chanting begins. The orks tear across the barren wasteland in pursuit of what they know will be a “proppa” good fight.

“TIME FOR FIGHTIN’ BOYZ!”

emerging from their drop pods, the blood drinkers quickly catch sight of the oily smoke trails heading in their direction. the marine masters, veterans of countless battles, recognise the pollution as a sign of incoming ork vehicles, and so hastily organise a battle line.

lacking vehicle support, the marines put their hopes in the devastator squad tacticaly positioned on the high ground, along with their brother dreadnaught armed with an assault cannon and a missile launcher.

the rest of the marines begin to form the west side of the battle line, hindered by lava flows, when all too soon…

the orks arive!
ORK TURN 1:

leading the mechanised ork hoard, the deffkoptaz scout ahead of the main warband and immediately contact the tactical squad protecting the devastators. after a brief volley of big shoota fire, the koptaz charge into the marines and a harrying combat ensues. despite worrying losses, the marines hold their ground and the fighting continues.

the rest of the ork vehicles begin to close in. a truck and a warbuggy follow the left hand course towards the position of the koptaz, hoping to disrupt the sturdy marine line. The battlewagon plows directly onwards, intent on utalising its new “krusha” after transporting “da Boss” into the thick of the enemy. elsewhere a convoy of trucks creep up the right flank waiting for the right moment to strike. the only vehicles which do not charge forward are the looted wagons, which instead grind to a halt to aim their “Boomguns” at the densly packed space marines…

shooting begins with an ear-shattering volley of ordnance shells from the wagons, with equaly shattering results on the marine lines. a large number of blood drinkers are blown apart right across the battlefield, in particular in the mass of unorganised marines infront of the battlewagon, much to the dismay of the Boss.”rokkit launchaz” also open up from the warbuggies, blowing off both weapons from the dreadnaught, with a lone rokkit from a wartruck disabling its legs.

(here the dead marines from the ordnance blasts are seen in the lava)

the dreadnaught watches the battle unfold, unable to aid his comerades in any way.

with the dust settling the marines ready their weapons and pray they can turn the horrendous casualties around.
MARINE TURN 1:
on the left flank, movement stayed to a minimum as the marines aimed their weapons at the multitude of vehicles in their sights. on the right flank however the blood drinkers marched forward to try and bring the fight to the orks. of particular notice a gifted librarian and his squad bravely marched towards the large battlewagon and its approaching “Krusha.”
Shooting by the marines was well placed and accurate. the devastators shot at a rogue warbuggy, turning it into a smoking pile of metal with multiple missile and lascannon shots. a tactical squad turned their sights to the approaching warbuggy, the plasma cannon and plasmagun both missing as well as a stormbolter. However, a single precise shot from a humble boltgun hit the driver square in the forehead, and the wartruck nosed into a crater before exploding, leaving its disgruntled passengers to crawl out from the wreckage.
facing a horrible death at the hands of the “Krusha” shoud they fail, the librarian and his retinue bravely assaulted the battlewagon. Bolstered by his psykic powers, the librarian succeeded in blowing appart the battlewagon in a spectacular fassion using his meltabombs. the battlewagon was torn to pieces, and when the smoke had cleared, all that remained were the mega-armoured nobs strenuously lifting the bellowing warboss back to his feet.

ORK TURN 2:

the trucks continued to sweep accross the right flank, skreeching to a halt to disgorge their burly passengers amung the marines. the orks from the wartruck wreckage succeeded in climbing out of the wreckage and charged into the tactical squad with the marine commander. the looted wagons largely stayed still, straining to find targets who were not engaged in a melee. also not to move were the warboss and retinue who were still getting to their feet and their senses.
Shooting again commenced with a barrage of lethal ordnance shells, tearing apart many marines who were not engaged in combat. one particular shot veered well clear of its intended target- two lone marines in the open, and instead scattered directly onto the enengaged devestator squad who were sheltered behind the deffkopta melee. the shot killed them instantly, and left a gaping hole in the marine defence as well as in the blackened ground.
Assault got underway with the wrecked slugga boys charging the master and his squad, who were holding the tetering deffence line together. on the other side of the battlefield, the orks from the wartrucks engaged the librarian and his followers as well as a second unit assaulting the second master and his squad.

the librarians followers were all slain and he himself was twice fataly wounded, but he managed to hang on, planing one final act of vengance..

the master on the left flank succeeded in repelling the ork agressors, and managed to slay the survivors as they tried to flee with his lightning claws.

elsewhere, the marines wern’t so lucky.. the deffkopta combat finally ended with the lone surviving marine being cut down by a buzzsaw. as well as this the second masters squad was ravaged leaving him and a handfull of survivors to hold the right flank.
MARINE TURN 2:
With nothing to do but fight on, combat continued to be resolved. marine re-enforcments charged into the second masters combat, in a bid to save him from the savage shoota boyz. the first master began heading towards the right flank, to try and turn the tide of the furious combats progressing. the Librarian, knowing he only had seconds to live, directed all his energies into delivering a blast of warp energy at the ork Warboss. acounts are unclear: the imperium maintain that the warboss was sucked into the warp, mega-armour and all, to be forever tormented by its daemons. The orks claim that the mek teleported the boss out at the last moment, sensing that something nasty was about to happen to him. However one thing is clear, the warboss disapeared and was not seen for many months, and with his exit a pungent smell ceased to be. the shoota boyz, enraged by this sudden change of events, hacked the Libranian to a bloody pulp, and turned their attention to the nearby combat with the second master.
TURN 3:

“Boomguns” one again sounded, spelling doom for the blood drinkers master and with him the left flank.

the shoota boyz closed in on the one remaining combat, intent on avenging their fallen warboss furthur. A wartruck careened behind the helpless dreadnaught floundering in the centre of the battlefield, and riddled its engine with bulletholes, sending it sparking wildly to the ground. Finally, all the unengaged orks on the right flank charged into the sole remaining combat, and by the end of the brawl, not a single marine remained standing.

ORK MASSACRE!
in the aftermath of the battle, the Blood drinker’s Strike Cruiser hastily disengaged. as well as the defeat on the mainland, they had recieved multiple reports of hostile ships closing in on their position. however, they vowed one day to return and punish the orks for their savagery.
Despite the confusion of the Boss dissapearing, the orks quickly fell back into their normal state of affairs. Dissapointed by a lack of vehicles to salvage, they never the less recovered the dreadnaught, as well as striping the dead marines of their power armour to be melted down for armour plates. after the battle, they inevitably enslaved the local population, who were quickly put to work in the gargant factories of “the insane” big mek Nutkog.
overall a most profitable encounter for the Orks.

Evidently the marines were genetically unstable to lose so spectacularly to such a rabble… They should learn a thing or two from the Ravens Repentence chapter
